Soccer, Volleyball, Golf, Tennis, and Cross Country are thriving!

The other fall sports at Burg have been very successful at the start of their perspective seasons. Girls’ volleyball and Boys’ soccer currently hold undefeated records while the lady Pirate soccer team has suffered one loss. The cross country team has done very well too bringing home several medals.

Boys Soccer

The boys socccer team led by Coach Jon Estep has been winning with a great balance of defense and offense. Goal Keeper Eric Green has defended just under a goal per game defensively with 36 saves while Aaron Jolly has led all scoring with 17 goals. Jacob Saxby is leading with assists. The boys are 8-0 overall with a 4-0 SOC record. They will be hosting rival Minford this Thursday at home.

Girls a Soccer

The girls soccer team led by Coach Todd Jarvis have a record of 6-1 and undefeated in SOC play. Chelsee Steele leads all scorers with 13 goals while Jordan Jennings and Laney Eller lead with 6 assists apiece. Goal keeper Morgan Bivens has recorded 23 saves. They will also be hosting Minford this Thursday at home.

Cross Country

The cross country team led by Coach Derek Massie has been faring well out on the course. They just brought home 12 medals from the Northwest invite with fielding many personal records along the way. David Brown finished a little over the 17 minute mark during his run. Lady Pirate runners Alyssa Dingus, Amanda Salmons, Gabby Deacon, Kyra Warren, and Natalie Parker all had top ten finishes. The next meet will be held at Ironton.

Girls Volleyball

The lady Pirate Volleyball team has been undefeated since the start of the season as well. Starting out 5-0, Coach Allen Perry has the Lady Pirates on track. The lady Pirates are led by Ali McQuay in kills (55) and aces (13). Kylee Barney is leading with 14 blocks. Emily Boggs is leading in digs (57) while Lauren Jolly leads the team in assists with 165. Pirates host the Minford falcons on Thursday.

Tennis

Lady Pirate tennis is 7-1 on the season coached by Jodi Wright. The tennis will play Waverly for the SOC title tomorrow. Madi Gill is undefeated in singles play this season.

Golf

The golf team lead by Coach Paul Boll has been tearing up the links. After 12 matches, The Pirates have finished ahead 40 out of 43 teams. Top scorers for the Burg have been Trevin Mault (38.5), Tanner Stevenson (43.1), Cooper McKenzie (43.6), and Levi Kidd (51.2).

Big Games

Big games this week for all the fall sports. Come out and support these young student athletes as they compete for the community of Wheelersburg. “When you play the burg, you play the whole town.”
