Burg Football continues on, Lady Pirate Volleyball ends historic run.

The Wheelersburg Football Pirates took to the gridiron at Ed Miller stadium this past Saturday night in an epic re-match of battle royal against Minford. The Falcons snagged a 6 spot in the region where as Wheelersburg came in as the 3rd seed in Region 19.

The game almost played out identical from the last match-up; both teams couldn't break the end zone plane in the first half. The falcons had the best shot as they marched deep into Pirate territory, but Burg's defense stiffened up like Gorilla glue on pair of Watsy's shoes. The Falcons had to settle for a Risner pitching wedge between the uprights giving Minford a 3-0 halftime lead.

The yellow hankies littered the field once again against these two, 11 penalties total between both teams, 12 if you count the one that fell out of the back judges pocket as he was trying to catch up with the Hedgehog.

In the second half, Makaya" hedgehog" Matthews got behind that offensive line and started to do some damage. Matthews led all rushers with 205 yards. He was weaving in and out of Minford's defensive attack like Tim Coldiron delivering a late, hot party pack to Coach Johnson. Avelp!

Coach Kaskey's offensive adjustments were spot on as Burg reeled off 28 points in the second half. They led 28-10 towards the end of the fourth quarter, but a late touchdown off an onside kick made it a little interesting at the end. Wheelersburg special teams came up with the second onside attempt and The Pirates fended off a late Falcon push to win 28-23.

Coach Woodard and crew will now take on the West Lafayette Ridgewood Generals in Lancaster, Ohio. The Generals are coming in with an unblemished record something the Pirates would love to help erase. The game will kick off this Saturday at 7 p.m. Don't be lame, go to the game. Let's dominate the fan base on this one!

Lady Pirate Volleyball Update

The Lady Pirates will end their amazing run in the tournament as they fell to Independence last Thursday. The Lady Pirates send off two outstanding seniors in Allie McQuay and Mallory Bergan. These two Pirates have paved the way for the underclassman, hold your head up high girls, job well done. Exciting things to come in the future for Coach Perry and the volleyball program.

And as always

Go Burg Go!
