Burg win ensures playoff and at least a share of SOC

The Pirates traveled to Lucasville to take on the Valley Indians last Friday night and were able to put up plenty of points while also keeping Valley from scoring as well. The front four defensive lineman have continued to get better. Luke Miller, Seth Denhey, Brady Warner, and Jackson Kouns have used their strength and speed to keep opposing teams from getting to the linebackers, allowing them to come free and make tackles for minimal to no gain. Linebacker Lane Charles had a nice game as he came free a couple of times to make some really strong tackles.

Offensive Goes

Earlier in the year, I reported that the Pirates needed desperately to move the ball to take pressure off the defense. Burg’s offense has answered the bell. Since Senior Evan Horsley moved to the QB position, the Pirates have averaged close to 40 points a game. The Pirates have been able to get the ball out to their athletes and keep opposing defenses on their toes. Something evident last Friday, as LJ Payton was able to get in the end zone, as well as Sophomore Eli Swords.

SOC and Playoff implications

The Pirates have secured a playoff birth and a share of the SOC. Burg will take on Portsmouth West next.
Winning this Friday night will secure a home playoff game and the outright SOC championship. Let’s get out there, bundle up, and cheer on the Pirates on Senior Night!

And as always.....

Go Burg Go!
